Creative arts

Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.

Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

Extra-curricular opportunities

Festival of Instrumental Music

The Festival of Instrumental Music features a combined recorder ensemble that performs annually at the Sydney Opera House with outstanding instrumental and vocal items from NSW public schools.

Students from years 3 – 6 are eligible to participate. There are some recorders available for loan to students.

Rehearsals begin in March and continue until the performance in August/September.

Participating students are expected to attend a weekly rehearsal before school one day per week and a cluster rehearsal with other local schools prior to the performance date.

Southern Stars

Southern Stars is a highly professional performance that gives NSW public school students the opportunity to showcase their talents in singing and dancing.

Students can enter in two performance categories depending on their age: choir (years 5 and 6) and dance (years 3 and 4).

Significant support and commitment is required from parents and students for regular lunchtime rehearsals, cluster rehearsals with other schools, payment for costumes and four performances.

The Southern Stars spectacular is held annually at the WIN Entertainment Centre, Wollongong in August/September.

Christmas choir

Students from Years 3-6 can join the Christmas choir in Term 4. The Christmas choir performs at the Moss Vale Christmas carols and other locations.
