Student opportunities and activities
At Moss Vale Public School, we provide a wide range of learning and enrichment opportunities designed to support students’ academic growth, creativity, leadership, and physical development. Programs are tailored to engage students from Kindergarten through Year 6 and extend to specialised initiatives in partnership with the Department of Education and regional providers.
Our programs include:
Academic Extension and Gifted Programs
- Southern Highlands Opportunity Class (Years 5–6) offering accelerated and enriched learning for high-achieving students.
- Differentiated classroom programs across K–6 including enrichment, extension, and acceleration.
- Extension small group withdrawal for mathematics.
- Participation in academic competitions such as:
- APSMO Maths Olympiad
- Tournament of the Minds
- National History Competition
- What Matters Writing Competition
- Science and Engineering Discovery Day
- Public speaking and debating opportunities.
- Chess competitions and clubs.
Creative and Performing Arts
- Pulse Alive Dance & Choir Program — high-quality dance choreography and massed choir performances at Sydney Olympic Park.
- School Choir Program with regular performance opportunities at school and community events.
- Participation in regional events such as the Southern Tablelands Dance Festival.
- Festival of Instrumental Music Recorder group performing at the Sydney Opera House.
- School musical productions:
- K–2 musical performances.
- Years 3–6 major stage productions involving acting, singing, and dance.
- Class-based drama, dance, and music integrated in the Creative Arts curriculum.
- Instrumental music opportunities and participation in the school band.
- Contributions to the All and Sundry student publication.
Visual Arts Extension and Competitions
- Engagement in local and regional art competitions and exhibitions including:
- BDAS (Berrima District Art Society) competitions.
- Ngununggula Student Art Prize.
- Other local community and council-run art showcases.
- Visits from artists and participation in creative workshops through school and regional programs.
- Dedicated visual arts programs promoting creative thinking, originality, and artistic skill development.
- Opportunities for ATSI students to partake in Indigenous cultural workshops and activities.
Leadership and Student Voice
- Leadership development via Student Representative Council (SRC) and school leadership programs.
- Peer mentoring and leadership roles in school events and activities.
- Public speaking and debating to build confidence and communication skills.
- Gardening Club involvement, including maintenance of the kitchen garden, care of chickens, and support of school market days.
- Year 6 Market Day — collaborative groups plan and run stalls as part of a fundraising event.
STEM and Innovation Opportunities
- Robotics and coding activities integrated in classroom learning and enrichment programs.
- Podcasting and digital media projects.
- Design and technology projects embedded across STEM curricula.
Sport and Physical Development
- Participation and representation in PSSA and inter-school sports competitions.
- Swimming, athletics, and cross-country carnivals.
- Sporting gala days across a range of activities.
- Opportunities for students to join PSSA regional events including equestrian, snowboarding, and cricket.
- Access to representative selection at district, zone, regional, and state levels in athletics, cross country, swimming, and team sports through PSSA.
- Specialist and regional sports programs in partnership with the NSW School Sports Unit (more here).
Cultural and Language Activities
- Language clubs and multicultural celebrations.
- Engagement with local Indigenous elders and cultural programs.

Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
Garden Club
Our students can join Mossy Meadows, our garden club growing and harvesting vegetables and then sell them at our market stall.
Chess competition
Our students can participate in interschools chess competitions, this develops their strategies and thinking.
Band
Our students can join Bandemonium and learn to play an instrument.
